Law partners Steve Harris and Don Smart have practiced together for 20 years, and formed the Savannah law firm of Smart & Harris in 2000. Their general practice is built on the philosophy of personalized attention, thoughtful legal solutions and striving to meet any legal needs of their clients.
Don Smart grew up in Baxley, Georgia and attended law school at Emory University in Atlanta. He has practiced law in Georgia since 1975, and is retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Don brings a valuable background in insurance defense to his practice in personal injury, wrongful death and workers' compensation. He also handles business law, estate planning and probate law, and civil litigation in state and federal courts.
Steve Harris is a native of Virginia and earned his degree from the University of Georgia Law School and has practiced in Georgia since 1971. His main practice areas are divorce, child custody, adoption and family law; estate planning, estate administration and probate litigation; Social Security disability; business law and civil litigation. He has significant appellate experience, including reported cases before the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Barbara Foster earned her law degree more than 20 years ago at Campbell University in North Carolina. She has practiced law in Georgia since 1993, spending 16 of those years working with the district attorney's office. She rounds out our general practice firm with her primary focus in criminal defense and juvenile criminal law, and also handles wills and estates. Barbara is a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Monica Patel brings a diverse background and 10 years of experience. She is admitted to practice in Georgia and several states, including South Carolina, which enables us to represent many clients in the neighboring Low Country. Monica practices in personal injury and work injury, estate planning and probate, business law and civil litigation. She is a member of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.
